I believe it is important to note that this is not evidence on the safety or otherwise of cannabis, but the effects on usage, crime levels, costs and public health messages of a carefully legalised approach to cannabis rather than the outright ban and criminalisation that we currently operate in the UK.


Should we carefully legalise cannabis?

Evidence from the US and research in the UK (see article) shows that careful and controlled legalisation of cannabis will not increase usage, but actually bring lower usage among young people, remove the drug from our streets, support lower crime rates and save / earn £800m in the UK which could be used to support mental health services.
